Meet Devah Walkem |

Devah carries a wide spectrum of titles - mom, partner/wife to Wymond, hairstylist, author, publisher, promoter, mentor, bike riding chic and feminist. She has had her finger on the pulse of what is current since the early 80's through her hair salons and also by hosting parties and fashion shows in nightclubs within the downtown core. Currently she operates part-time in her own salon, Courtyard Hair in Toronto. She is city and country. Every week she transitions from the family home on a farm outside of Georgetown Ontario to Cabbagetown at her shop. Devah is a wordsmith and performer. A haircut with Devah is as good as attending a one woman show. One day she may add "standup" to her list of role titles. You can find Devah at Couryard Hair, 214 Carlton St., Fridays and Saturdays.

| Devah says... |
I loved the portrait where you could visually see an artist's perception
of you. Even my husband when he saw the print out was so impressed with
it all. It's never too late to learn something about yourself. |

Devah
The red flames come the closest to capturing Devah. She is passionate and intensely focused on what is on her mind. Devah has presence, and people are aware of her being in the room before she has uttered a word. She also has a way with words that is engaging-- raw, hilarious, always truthful but never spoken with malice. When she speaks there is no doubt about what she is saying. She presents her ideas clearly and concisely with fire and wit. The black colour represents the element of the dramatic that accompanies Devah. She is definitely not a "beige" person. The black also speaks to Devah's "edgyness". She knows what and who is happening in the moment and is comfortable pushing the boundaries of thoughts and ideas. She has a way of introducing new ideas to people, even before they realized they were thinking it.....

| There is a tender side to Devah that people count on and trust. In living in and with the truth, there is an element of 'doing the right thing' which clarifies when people are confused and helps to shed light on their path. The gold, and blue are included to speak to her spiritual core and her caring nature. Devah is a person to whom people go to when they are in need - not only for a meal and some comfort, but for the clarity to ease the confusion. Devah is after all first and foremost a great nurturer. |

"There comes a time in life when the line, "It's the way I am" just doesn't work as an excuse for bad behaviour." Devah |
